There’s no doubt you already know the importance of having straight teeth for maintaining good oral hygiene and for donning a brilliant smile. For some individuals, having straight teeth may involve orthodontic treatment. Thanks to Invisalign®, you can achieve a beautiful, straighter smile without traditional braces and a mouth full of metal wires and brackets. If you want to avoid the inconvenience of metal braces, the Atlanta Center for Dental Health in Alpharetta, Georgia, offers Invisalign® clear aligners to give you the smile of your dreams.
Invisalign® clear aligners are used to correct common malocclusion and mild misalignment issues. The idea behind clear aligners is to move your teeth to a straighter position with consistent gentle force. In this way, Invisalign® may seem similar to traditional braces, but the similarity ends there. Essentially, wearing clear aligners is like wearing clear braces, but with none of the discomfort that comes with metal wires and brackets.
Here are a few things to know about Invisalign® clear aligners.
The Invisalign® process is very simple — your dentist won’t rely on standard impressions and dental x-rays. Instead, the process involves more detailed imaging with advanced computer software to create a comprehensive map of your teeth and gums. Based on this, you will be presented with a step-by-step animation that clearly shows how your teeth will move as they progress towards correction. This means that even before you start wearing your aligners, you will be able to see how your new smile will look like on a computer screen right in your dentist’s office.
You will wear your prescribed aligners daily for at least 20 to 22 hours, only removing them when eating, flossing, and brushing. Every two weeks, you will change to a new set of aligners, and every six weeks, you will visit your dentist for follow-up appointments. At these appointments, the progress of your Invisalign® treatment will be assessed, and you will be able to discuss any challenges you may be experiencing. The treatment time for straightening your teeth with Invisalign® is, on average, 12 to 18 months.
