Why early dental care is important
It can be easy to think that a child’s baby teeth aren’t important because they ultimately fall out. But in reality, children’s primary teeth play many essential roles in their development! Baby teeth:
- Help your child chew their food properly
- Are important for learning how to say several speech sounds correctly
- Save space in your child’s mouth for their permanent teeth to erupt in the proper location
- Play a role in your child’s confidence in their smile
- Help in building and strengthening the face and jaw muscles as your child grows
We recommend that you bring your child in for their first dental visit by their first birthday. Early dental care is focused on making your child comfortable in the dental office and establishing baseline information about your child’s teeth, jaw, and other oral structures. We also use this time to answer any questions you may have about taking care of your child’s teeth. As your child grows, we gently clean their teeth to remove any built-up plaque, tartar, and bacteria and provide preventive and restorative treatments as needed for their specific oral health. We monitor your child’s oral development at every visit and work with you to determine the best treatment options should the need arise.

He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry and completed advanced training in comprehensive dentistry in San Diego, obtaining certification in Advanced Education in General Dentistry.
