At the Atlanta Center for Dental Health, patients in and around the community of Alpharetta have access to a wide range of restorative, cosmetic, and general dentistry solutions to help them keep their smiles healthy and beautiful. However, there are also times when patients may need unexpected treatments to address problems that develop outside one’s control. For example, some patients may need to undergo treatments; such as root canal therapy.
Root canal therapy, also called endodontic therapy, is a procedure done to remove the dental pulp from inside the tooth. The dental pulp is the nerves and blood vessels in the center of the tooth. However, there are times in which it may become infected, diseased, or impacted by an abscess or deep cavity. This can cause pain and discomfort that needs to be addressed by removal of the dental pulp or extraction of the tooth. Many dentists, including Dr. Bradley Hepler, encourage patients to consider root canal therapy instead of permanent removal of the tooth to maintain the tooth structure and the health of the smile.
Many patients who are faced with the choice of having endodontic therapy often ask about the average cost of a root canal. There is no specific cost because there are several factors taken into consideration first. If there is an infection, antibiotics may need to be applied directly to the area of treatment or through oral medication. The size of the tooth and the severity of the problem may also affect the price. Additionally, patients who have teeth dramatically weakened by the procedure may also need to have a dental crown placed over the tooth to protect it; adding to the final cost of treatment. Any future replacements or problems may have an added expense, as well. All of this can contribute to the overall average cost. Patients with dental insurance coverage; however, may be able to enjoy a reduced cost if their plan provides coverage for endodontic therapy.
